Sunflower Summer
KWEC is a participating venue in the Sunflower Summer Program. The Sunflower Summer Program benefits Kansas families with school-aged children, encouraging them to explore and fall in love with Kansas. This program gives affordable access to over 220 tourism attractions across the state and supports the Kansas tourism economy. Eligible Kansas families can download the Sunflower Summer App to claim tickets to participating venues.
The 2024 Sunflower Summer season will run from May 25-August 11. Participants who check in to the KWEC using the app will receive a free wildlife craft kit with a field guide.

Want a unique nature experience? Then, visit the Kansas Wetlands Education Center. KWEC overlooks Cheyenne Bottoms; the largest inland marsh in the United States and a Ramsar designated, Wetland of International Importance.
The KWEC is managed by Fort Hays State University in cooperation with the Kansas Department of Wildlife Parks and Tourism.
Walk through state-of-the-art exhibits that tell the story of Cheyenne Bottoms from its ancient geological formation to the management challenges of the future. Discover the magnificence of these wetlands and the animals and plants living there.
