Date: 05/24/2024 9:00 AM - 05/24/2024 12:00 PM
Event Details
Named after renowned conservationist Aldo Leopold, the iconic design of a Leopold bench combines functionality with elegance. Best known for writing "A Sand County Almanac," Leopold helped to create an ecological movement and was a major influence on attitudes toward our natural environment.
Attend the May 24 WILD program to build and decorate your very own Leopold Bench. Members of the Ellinwood Skills USA team will be on hand assisting families as they use power tools to construct the bench. Using a simple design, Leopold benches are easy to build. A unique feature allows the backrest to provide sturdy support for elbows while using binoculars or cameras, making them a perfect outdoor feature to use while observing nature.
Registration is required by calling 877-243-9268 or emailing amkern2@fhsu.edu. Cost of materials for the bench are $50. Families can work together to build their bench.
This program is part of our WILD series. The mission of WILD is to get kids off screens and outside appreciating nature. Excerpts of a "Sand County Almanac" will be read while we build to help create a lasting appreciation for Aldo Leopold and wildlife conservation.
