Hunters braved the wind and rain on this opening morning of the 2011 duck season. Kent of Salina had a good day of hunting at Cheyenne Bottoms with a mixed-bag limit that included Northern Shoveler, Northern Pintail, Blue-winged Teal, Green-winged Teal, and Mallards. The 2011 duck season opens this weekend. Although dry conditions have limited the amount of water at Cheyenne Bottoms, there are still plenty of hunting opportunities for those who want to try their luck in the marsh. According to the Region 3 Waterfowl Report for Cheyenne Bottoms, hunters averaged 3.3 teal on opening day, last Saturday. With the recent cold front, wildlife managers have seen an increase in teal numbers and a weekly average of 3.4 teal per hunter. The daily bag limit is 4 teal.
